To be fair, I did hit the planning stage for some time… Although, admittedly, that time was mainly spent developing interesting concepts for the Deadlamb logo. I did spend about two minutes sketching out the layout for the blog redesign and realised I rather liked the one I had.

As I have already mentioned, the Deadlamb – The Blog layout was originally based on the PDwan theme which I chose because of the nicely-sized header and simple, two-column set-up, which I liked at the time because I thought it worked with the Deadlamb homepage better than most. Despite my complete lack of understanding (not about anything in specific, just a general lack of understanding), I managed to bodge the original theme to follow the style of the homepage. I was thoroughly impressed with myself at the time. And, having returned to the position of having to edit code, I’m even more impressed with myself for being able to do anything other than bang my head against the table.

Maybe this suggests that I’ve gotten stupider over the years – and I wouldn’t disagree, though I’d like to think that I’m getting back on the right track with the latest changes to The Blog.

Ok, so it looks pretty much the same. When considering the design, I quickly realised that I kinda liked the way it looked and I was only changing it for the sake of learning something. I’m definitely keeping a long-term ambition of refreshing the whole Deadlamb style, but that would start with the homepage and move on from there. At the moment, I’m just thoroughly chuffed with what I learnt last night and what I was able to achieve through a wing and a prayer.

It may not look like much, but I think I finally get it – which is two-thirds of the battle, I guess.

So, please, enjoy the larger layout, less-heavy front-page, homepage-style leftbar navigation, featured images, ALL articles at the bottom, tweaked colors for optimized ‘oh, didn’t notice that’-ness…which may not seem like a major overhaul, but fuck you.

Oh, all this talk about designing themes makes this ol’ post on Mashable particularly relevant:

10 Unusual & Original Wordpress Themes – Link

Something to think about.

Found this sitting on my hard-drive the other day. Just wish I had tried making some money out of this back when MySpace wasn’t shit. Regardless, the recent chatter about January 30th being ‘International Delete Your MySpace Account Day’ motivated me to post this for the world to sneer at – or, more accurately, largely ignore.

Features:

MySpace on the go – send and receive comments, photos, videos and voice messages to your friends’ myspace accounts. You can also browse mobiles, and even optimize the design of your page for other people’s mobiles.

Pressure-sensitive retractable keypad – you simply squeeze the device to send the keypad firing out of the bottom to hastily send that bulletin informing everyone you’re bored.

Bluetooth your profile – send your MySpace profile to everyone nearby easily via bluetooth.

Sync with MySpace – sync all your contact details and calendar events with MySpace, meaning you’re always in touch and will never miss that gig of that band you care nothing about.

Birthday and event alerts – never forget your best bud’s birthday again!

View MySpace videos on your phone and download MySpace music as ringtones – That one’s pretty self-descriptive.

As you can see, it’s pretty ace. I should also say that an additional feature would be Rupert Murdoch listening to all your conversations – which pales in comparison to the Facebook Fone, which offers free monitoring by the CIA for life. Excellent.

Does anyone even read bulletins anymore?

Well read this one, cos Deadlamb is back and more auspiciously audacious than ever before. Regardless of your surroundings, come slyly masturbate over the new website (now sitting on its own domain!) at www.deadlamb.co.uk

In case none of you remember me, please allow me to provide a brief recap – To most of you, we first became friends a year or so ago. You were attracted to me because of my boner-inspiring logo and trend-haltingly attractive page – I was attracted to you because you seemed either hot, slutty or both.

For a short while, it seemed that nothing could halt the tireless spread of the world’s most famously late farmyard animal. Ultimate, worldly domination was not to be, however, as my legendary laziness found me neglecting my MySpace duties…

I daren’t reveal the depths of depravity and debauchery reached during that period. Just imagine a hunch-backed dwarf disemboweling a family of raccoons whilst drinking neat whisky from the hollowed out fetus of the true descendant of Jesus Christ and getting anally fisted by a half-human, half-rhino hybrid prostitute called Bluebell – you won’t be far wrong.

What I shall reveal is the fact that my website has now been updated and includes a blog and a search engine designed for creative types. Click the linky thing, or I’ll give Bluebell your address.

The initial draft of this, inaugural, blog was originally a cleverly-written piece announcing my current level of impressment. The eye-catching opening line liquefied expectation (not entirely sure what this means, but that’s some freakishly good copy right there) and lambasted your subconscious with some brilliantly self-referential narrative. The intention was to tickle your fancy with a short, snappy sentence stacked with suspense. It began: “Well, I am suitably impressed”. Awesome. Why am I impressed? You had to read on, of course. By leading you in such a way, searching for a resolution to such an enigmatic beginning, I exposed you to tales of my own magnificence – yet persisted in insisting that these prime examples of my personal deification were not what impressed me, and not the subject of the blog.

So what was the subject of the blog and what warranted the change?

Like most things in life, the answers to these questions are intrinsically linked.

Microsoft Word from Office 2007 was what impressed me so much – particularly, the programs ability to post articles direct to your blog. Whoo. This incited my interest so much that I actually wrote a blog, dedicated to the fact that this incited my interest so much. The article was great and my loyalty to Microsoft assured until the dastardly word processor crashed and I lost everything – my innocence, my joy, my impressment (yep, gonna keep using that) and my lovely words.

Still, that’s life. Now, I must pop off for a cup of tea and to say hi to my parents who have returned home after two weeks in Spain. I’ve heard them bustling around downstairs for about twenty minutes and I should really welcome them and prove I am still alive.
