Deadlamb Headline Crop

Deadlamb is now rocking at version 0.75, which means I am almost happy to call it a real, actual website-type thing. The actual point of the site remains elusive to me - a fact that forces me to realise that either a) I’m wasting my time, or b) Deadlamb is the key to the past, present and future and its destiny is beyond the control of a simple geek such as myself. Fingers crossed for the latter, eh?

Although I have questioned the relevance of announcing updates to a site nobody (other than me) is familiar with, I have decided to carry on regardless, use this post as a little testament to all that is Deadlamb and buoy my confidence a little by demonstrating how much I have achieved since those early days of frames and CSS nightmares…ohh, memories.

What’s new?

    New feature!

  • DeadGood Search Engine - I will cover this feature in more detail in another blog entry but, in essence, this is my stab at creating a designer-centric search engine embedded on the Deadlamb site. Links to this page have been added throughout the site, replacing the old Workspace ones.
  • Homepage

  • New header - now includes the ‘classic’ Deadlamb logo.
  • Blog and DeadGood Search navigation rollovers are now present replacing links to the Workspace - which was a half-hearted work in progress - and About Stig-Bloke - which requires some extra work before making a triumphant return.
  • New centrepiece promoting the new DeadGood Search Engine.
  • Galleries

  • The galleries section has been fleshed out with another page and six new images.
  • Extras

  • One new image in the ‘random photoshop edits’ section.
  • Website design gallery added, with five pages of my website designs.

And that’s pretty much it. Like I said, I will discuss the DeadGood Search Engine in more detail in a separate article. Replacing the Workspace page was a hard decision to make, I had a great idea for that section and it’s a shame that I never had time to sort it out. Likewise, About Stig-Bloke was not easy to drop but if I want it to come back I’ll have to pull my finger out and get working on it.

The site’s looking pretty good now, the only problem preventing me from awarding it full “version 1.0″ status is the fact that I haven’t updated all the page titles and I need to add some relevant metadata. I originally started making Deadlamb as a simple exercise to learn how to use Dreamweaver (still learning by the way) and I never expected I’d still be adding to it over a year later.

The site now boasts 31 html pages (not including the blog), 7 flash movies and a whopping 169 unique images. In the future I’m hoping to include a new section under extras for videos I have made; the galleries always need adding to and I need to start updating that with more regularity; I need to jump back into the routine of caffeine overdoses and stressful dreams that Flash always provokes; I’m thinking the blog may be feeling a little underused; and I have four (or five) more features to put up there before I catch up and have to start creating new things.

All in all, that’s really rather exciting and I hope that everyone reading this wants to stick around and see what’s next. Hint: There’s a teaser below!
